I have also grown up with boombox, especially old ones that my parents used to have. Once they bought new one, they gave me the old one so that I could always play around with it when I was small.

However, the emergence of CD and MD has put boombox out of the business; boombox nearly disappeared in front of peoples eyes 30 years after it was born.
